What's the role of sustainable certifications in sustainability?
Today, more than 30 different organizations attended to the 1st Multi-sectoral Event from Colombian Sustainable Trade Platform (Plataforma de Comercio Sostenible) at Museo del Chicó in Bogotá, Colombia. During the meeting, Ximena Franco from Florverde Sustainable Flowers discussed about the role of certifications to achieve truly sustainability and how the standard helps the producers to achieve better social, environmental and managerial performance.
Moreover, other panelists such as Andrea Olivar (Country Manager, Solidaridad), Ángela María Peláez (Sustainability Director, Expocafé) and Bernardo Sánchez (CEO, Aceites S.A.) highlighted the importance of focusing on impact rather than processes to reach sustainability. Other critical aspects that the panelists pointed out were innovation, knowledge sharing and integration processes with certification standards inside agricultural industries in Colombia like coffee, cocoa, palm oil and flowers.
As a result, the main goal of the event was to learn and share these experiences, goals, achievements and new strategic approaches to increase collaborative work in the Platform with its 90+ allies, including Florverde Sustainable Flowers.
